Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about our service.

How long is a typical call?
Most calls are 5-15 minutes. Quick questions take about 5 minutes. Full diagnosis calls average 10-15 minutes. DIY walkthroughs can be up to 30 minutes depending on the repair.
When do I pay?
You pay after the call, once you're satisfied with the advice. We'll text you a payment link or you can pay over the phone. We accept all major credit cards.
What if you can't diagnose my problem?
If we can't help you figure out what's wrong, you don't pay. Simple as that. Some problems genuinely need hands-on inspection, and we'll tell you that honestly.
Are you real mechanics?
Yes. We're ASE-certified technicians with years of experience working on all makes and models. We use professional diagnostic databases (Mitchell ProDemand) to give you accurate information.
What information should I have ready?
Know your vehicle's year, make, model, and approximate mileage. If you have an OBD code (like P0420), have that ready too. The more details about the symptom, the better we can help.
Can you diagnose any car?
We can help with most domestic and import vehicles - cars, trucks, SUVs. We have access to technical service bulletins, wiring diagrams, and repair procedures for virtually all makes and models.
Do you do actual repairs?
We're a phone consultation service - we diagnose and advise, but don't physically work on your car. We can walk you through DIY repairs or help you understand what a shop should charge.
What if I need to call back with follow-up questions?
Quick follow-ups within 24 hours of your original call are free. If it's a new issue or you need extended help, standard rates apply.
Is my car safe to drive?
This is one of the most common questions we answer. Call us, describe what's happening, and we'll tell you if it's safe to drive or if you should stop immediately. Some issues are urgent, others can wait.
Can you help me avoid getting ripped off?
Absolutely. Send us a repair estimate and we'll tell you if the price is fair, if you really need the repair, and what questions to ask the shop. Second opinions are one of our most popular services.
What hours are you available?
We're available 7 days a week. If you call and we don't answer, leave a message and we'll call you right back.
How is this different from googling my problem?
Google gives you generic answers and forum posts that may not apply to your specific vehicle. We look up your exact year/make/model, check for known issues and recalls, and give you personalized advice based on your symptoms.
